About

CYT offers classes over the course of three sessions during the school year: Fall, Winter, and Spring. Weekly classes last for two hours and run for ten consecutive weeks. A variety of classes are offered in drama, voice, dance, and specialty classes that vary per session. Most of the classes are small to insure personal attention and growth. At the end of a CYT session, students will come away with improved skills in the area of emphasis. During the last week of class, a high-energy showcase is presented by each class to demonstrate to other students, family, and friends what they have learned.

*NOTE If the class your child wants to take is full, please email patti@cytlafayette.org. We have waiting lists and can potentially create a new class if there are students who are interested.

*COVID-19 - All health protocols will be followed in order to keep our students and teachers safe. A full list of protocols will be to registered families.

Classes (Lafayette, Vermilion, and Central)

Classes are held every fall, winter and spring for kids ages 4 to 18. Each session is 10 weeks long with one class a week. Each session ends with a family showcase to see what the kids have learned. In addition, at the beginning of each session kids 8 to 18 can audition for the big shows which if cast would require additional rehearsal days.

"CYT Lafayette is a great way for your child to explore their creative side in a Christian atmosphere."

Current Teachers:

Holly Dotson

Holly Broussard Dotson is a proud native of Abbeville, Louisiana. She is also a graduate of the University of Louisiana at Lafayette and now teaches at Harvest Time Christian Academy. She has served as stage manager for CYT Vermilion's Aladdin Jr. and Mary Poppins, but has greatly enjoyed her first assistant directing role in Seussical jr. She has a passion for the young people of Vermilion Parish and loves to see them using their talent for God's glory.

JENNY BEST

A wife and a mother of two, a daughter and grand daughter of beautiful Cajun women. With a background in dance and theatre Jenny loves everything about the stage! In fact that is where she and her husband Nick met, in “Anatevka” (Fiddler on the Roof.” She currently teaches beginner dance classes in Lafayette and loves watching young performers grow. Whether I am baking up a batch of cookies for my shop BestSweetsBebe or behind the scenes of the stage the creativity flows through my veins. As my two girls get older, I become more proud of myself as a mom, as a leader, a wife and a lover of performing arts.

Lindsey Duhon

My name is Lindsey Duhon and I will be teaching All that Jazz! I am a senior at North Vermillion High School and I have a strong passion for dance. I have been dancing for 14 years at Dance with Liz and student teaching for the past 3 years. I have also been on my schools Danceline the past 3 years where I currently hold the position of Section Leader. Dancing has always been a big part of my life and I cannot wait to share that with CYT!

Michelle Flott

I’m a homeschooling mom to 4 kids between the ages of 12 & 7. I’ve been a “CYT mom” for 8 years since my oldest started CYT classes in Lafayette at age 4. I have a bachelor's degree from UL Lafayette in Child & Family Studies and a Children's Ministry degree from Christ for the Nations in Dallas, TX. I'm the owner of Happy Little Trees Acadiana which offers art classes and parties for kids. This will be my 3rd session teaching the 4-7 year olds in Vermilion. I have so much fun with this age group and I'm looking forward to another great session!

Mitchell Prudhomme

Mitchell gained a love for singing and acting while performing in church productions as a young boy. He eventually became involved with several community theatres around Acadiana. He has directed productions at IPAL (New Iberia), Abbey Players (Abbeville), New Iberia Senior High, and Teche Theatre (Franklin), and performed at many more. Theatre is a huge part of his family as he met his now-wife while working backstage on a production at IPAL. Now, he is the father of two young children who also share a love for the stage. Mitchell is currently the President of Abbey Players and a member of the IPAL Board of Directors.

Rylie Denais

I just recently graduated from North Vermilion High School. I was part of the quarantined, graduating class of 2020. This fall, I will start taking classes at LSUE, where I will be majoring in Elementary Education! I found my love for teaching at a little dance studio in Maurice, called Dance With Liz. Here, I studied and practiced Ballet, Jazz, Tap, Lyrical, Contemporary, and Hip Hop for 15 years. And, eventually, I got to assistant teach a jazz and tap class for three years. I have truly been blessed to teach my own dance classes at CYT! It's more than younger me could have ever hoped or dreamed for, as a dancer! I am so excited to share my dance experience and journey with others!

Teachers

A CYT Teacher’s mission is to train and instruct students in such a way as to promote the development of character, self-esteem, and confidence. CYT teachers are qualified and experienced in the area in which they teach. They have been trained in the CYT methods of instruction and agree with the CYT values and outcome goals. All CYT teachers have been background checked and adhere to our CYT Mission and Values. Our teachers truly care about their students and provide a constructive and fun environment for them to learn.

Showcase

Parents, friends, and relatives are invited to attend CYT's Showcase performance on the last day / evening of classes, free of charge! Showcase is the grand finale of each session of classes, at which every class makes a 5-10 minute presentation of something they have learned and rehearsed during the session. Don't miss the action!
