Get ready to help bring the colorful world of
Seussical to life! In this hands-on scenic and prop design class, students ages 8–14 will explore the creative world behind the scenes while designing and creating scenic elements and props for our Junior production of
Seussical this winter.
Students will learn how designers use color, shape, texture, scale, and imagination to create a theatrical world that supports the story and characters. Through a combination of design activities, creative projects, and hands-on building, students will contribute ideas and creations that can become part of the production.
Students will explore:
- The basics of scenic and prop design for live theater
- How scenery and props help tell a story and establish a setting
- Designing props and scenic elements inspired by the colorful world of Seussical
- Sketching, planning, and developing creative design ideas
- Exploring materials, textures, colors, and construction techniques
- Building and creating selected scenic pieces and props for the production
- Working collaboratively as a design team while developing problem-solving skills
